CARROLL PAINTING · PLAN WITH CONFIDENCE
Choose a finish that feels at home.
Color belongs to a setting. Light, floors, furnishings, masonry and neighboring surfaces influence how it feels once the project is finished.
Begin with what is staying.
Look at flooring, countertops, stone, brick, roof color and architectural details before narrowing the palette. Identify what you enjoy and what you want to change. Inspiration images help describe a direction, but a color that works beautifully elsewhere may look different in your own space.
Watch the light change.
Compare samples in the actual setting, in daylight and under your usual lighting. Look at them in morning and evening conditions where possible. Interior colors can shift from wall to wall. Outside, direct sun and shade change the appearance of the same color. A screen image or small chip is a starting point, not a final prediction.
Consider the relationships.
View wall color with the intended trim and ceiling finish. Outside, consider siding or stucco alongside doors, trim and permanent materials. A subtle change in contrast can define the architecture. A quieter palette may let texture and detail lead. The right direction starts with how you want the home to feel.
Treat sheen as a design decision.
Sheen changes reflected light and can influence how texture or repairs are perceived. Product performance matters too. Discuss appearance, cleaning needs and surface condition together. The same color in different finishes may not look identical. Craftsmanship includes noticing these relationships before the final coat.
Confirm the choices.
Whenever practical, review a sample in the actual selected product and sheen. Confirm the color name, code, brand and finish for each surface in the project plan. Resolve any property or architectural approval requirements before work is scheduled. Clear decisions help preparation and application support the result you chose.
QUESTIONS WORTH ASKING
A few helpful answers.
Can I choose a color from my phone?
Use your phone to gather ideas, then review a physical sample in the space. Screens, photography and lighting can change its appearance.
Should walls and trim use the same sheen?
They do not have to. Consider the desired appearance, surface condition and intended use as a complete combination.
Can you help discuss my color ideas?
Yes. Share your ideas and the surfaces involved when requesting an estimate. Color and finish decisions can be discussed as part of planning your project.
Keep planning with Carroll.
